Nebraska law goes down :)

Meanwhile, in the "News from Another Planet" section, the Federal Supreme Court a federal judge, excuse me-- has ruled Nebraska's anti-gay-marriage law unconstitutional, as a violation of the 14th "Equal Protection" Amendment.

Shocked, I say, shocked, but pleasantly shocked :P

It's nice to that the system does work from time to time. :)

Yeah, but it's always a delicate balance of political power and choosing one's battles and waiting until it's savvy to do something when it should have been just *right* to do it. Oh, well, they overthrew a state *amendment*, so maybe this'll happen within my lifetime :)

I'm waiting for this to be appealed, because it undoubtedly will. My hope is that it'll hit the U.S. Supreme Court, and this sort of fascist Christian lawmaking will be struck down as unconstitutional once and for all.

Then again, there's always the proponents of the U.S. Constitutional amendment... I'm worried this defeat will get them all up in arms again and push the issue.

According to the article that was a federal judge--I'm hoping *he* wants it to be appealed, and has picked this one as a good time to fight.

*Sigh* Yeah, I know, the neoconservative twerps are going to take this as a sign that they're not protecting the nation hard enough. And liberals don't vote, damn their eyes.
