Mrf. Jaggies.

Bad case of the jaggies on these, but here's the beginning of my mushroom icon set. I'm tempted to give them all a white background to get rid of the antialiasing pixel problem...

Good *grief*, there's a lot of LJ moods :)

Try creating them as PNGs. The PNG format has a full alpha channel, meaning no more jaggies forever, and you can use them on any color background.

Haven't heard of PNGs--do they allow animation (and are they supported by most web browsers?)

They don't allow animation - forgot about that. That may be a deal-killer for you. :) Browser support for PNG is pretty good across-the-board now, though.

Gah I'm at work and away from my warez. Are the jaggies a solid type of jaggies or the more annoying subtle layer of jaggies? You might just be able to replace their color through some (insert application title) wizardry. :)

With small images like this, futzing with anti-alias will just make them look grainy and jagged. I think the white background's the best way to go.

How are you creating these things? What you need to do is turn off anti-aliasing. That elminates the blend from one color to another in the border, and therefore eliminates the jaggies.

Yeah, but I never remember to do that whilest I'm creating them. When something has a smooth white background, anti-aliasing looks good. When it goes transparent, it looks bad.

These should be neat when done! I won't offer any advice, looks like there is plenty already. Oh, and sorry about the no-reply to email thing to your last couple of mails; for some reason, and I blame Grande for this, It appears i can not send POP mail from home. Arg. This makes me unhappy.
