Mandelbrot Rock!

This is SO going up as my weirdmusic link of the week, maybe not next week, but soon.
Jonathan Coulton is, self-evidently, Da Bomb. I'm in love with his song Mandelbrot Set. Pardon me for posting lyrics, but this stuff is SO COOL.

Pathological monsters! cried the terrified mathematician
Every one of them is a splinter in my eye
I hate the Peano Space and the Koch Curve
I fear the Cantor Ternary Set
And the Sierpinski Gasket makes me want to cry
And a million miles away a butterfly flapped its wings
On a cold November day a man named Benoit Mandelbrot was born

...
Just take a point called Z in the complex plane
Let Z1 be Z squared plus C
And Z2 is Z1 squared plus C
And Z3 is Z2 squared plus C and so on
If the series of Z’s should always stay
Close to Z and never trend away
That point is in the Mandelbrot Set
Mandelbrot Set you’re a Rorschach Test on fire
You’re a day-glo pterodactyl
You’re a heart-shaped box of springs and wire
You’re one badass fucking fractal

And you’re just in time to save the day
Sweeping all our fears away
You can change the world in a tiny way
And you’re just in time to save the day
Sweeping all our fears away
You can change the world in a tiny way
Go on change the world in a tiny way
Come on change the world in a tiny way

Blackalicious does a rap called "Alphabet Aerobics" and another called "Chemical Calisthenics," and Rayza has a techno song called "Oldschool (Wax to Binary)"- all geeky music. Geeky music is amazing.

Calic0 is right, Del the funky Homosapien has some weird music... "If You Must" is great.

I should join your comm... I have TONS of weird music.

Has anyone offered to make a layout or anything for the comm? I just joined and I plan to be active in it, and I have nothing to do, so I could make a background image and host it... or send it to you. I dunno. I'll probably design something anyway and send it to you, and you can do whatever you want to with it. The default layouts for journals is just so bland. Such a turnoff.

Hmm. Well, if you'd enjoy the project, that'd be neat. You'll have to explain how to change the LJ display to a custom image, though, I'm hazy on that.

Okie dokie. I made an image last night which is kinda weird, I'll fool around on my own journal and see how the layout could look. Woohoo.

This one's not actually my comm, I found it lying around. The owner had never really worked it--it only had two Interests, "music" (too broad to be of use) and "weird music". I asked the owner to make me co-moderator so I could get it running a bit better.

I'll have to look into funky homosapiens! Thanks for the tip!

Of course, this definition is slightly mathematically flawed, as it fails to define what C should be. :)  I get the feeling occurrences of "C" in the lyrics should be replaced with "Z", which will then generate the set as described.

But then, where you come from, "Z" and "C" sound much alike anyway! ;)
