Betrayal!

And after all the hours I've worked for this company, too! They put a spotted hyena on the front cover of their fifth grade title, "Animal Scavengers." Blatant species stereotyping serving the Lionist agenda!

Cute picture, though.

Obviously they are not on the cutting edge of zoological research.

Just part of the conspiracy, Spots. With smear tactics like these there'll never be a hyena in the White House. [overly dramatic sigh]

["Well, we tried to get a photo gallery going for 'Noble Hunters of the Sahara,' but every shot we found made it look like they were eating something seconds before it exploded, or were trying to cunningly disguise themselves as mud..."]

But there already has been a hyena at the White House, Teddy Roosevelt had one for a pet ;?)

[blink, blink] Wow, I didn't know that.

[briefly researches Roosevelt, ponders political platform--"Vote Republican, put a hyena in the white house"]

I didn't either until a ran across a book on presidential pets that was being auctioned on eBay. At the time I would search eBay auctions containing the word "hyena" in either the title or description.

Blackmuzzle skunked me on at least two hyena-related auctions there. It is possible there are people that are both more obsessive and wealthier than I.

We must not have been on eBay at the same time then ;?)

Ah, this was a while ago--one of them was an "I want a hyena for christmas" magnet/button set (those turn up all the time now), the other was, I think, a really precious, "OMG why didn't I go past $40 oh yeah because I was unemployed," advertisement from a late-victorian era zoo to advertise their new spotted hyena exhibit. Oh, you would have loved it, it was done in that graceful line art, a little reminiscent of Milne or "A Child's Garden of Verses," showing a sweet little girl in a flowing night-dress sort of thing, reclining supine with three of our favorite large carnivores, lolling and lounging like big dogs. It was frikkin' adorable.

I was there from December 2000 until September 2002. I stopped because the auctions were getting too repetitive. But I can't say I saw either of the items you described.

The same stuff does come up again and again--yay, more lion king thimbles, more Jackie Chan "Enter the Hyena"--there's the occasional treasure though.

I once got a pin from the Johannesburg Hard Rock Cafe :?)

I also have amassed an impressive collection of hyena trading cards.

I can say with 100% honesty that I am not one bit surprised.

This message here so that you two are not talking just to yourselves. Freakin scavengers.
