More didj obsession stuff--

Making a new toy--trying some new tricks to make a PVC didj. This method uses a heat gun to press dimples into the sides to texture the inside more like a termite-riddled log might be, with bulges and dents, to get more backpressure and a richer tone. Not sure how well the technique itself works, since I was working with a 5 1/2-long pipe, longer than any other didgeredoo I've messed around with. But after futzing around for about three hours trying to make a mouthpiece (succeeding, ultimately) I got a deep, base tone that was stronger than any other didj I've played. Unfortunately, I can only sustain it for a few seconds, and if I try circular breathing, I start to see stars. Great sound, though.

I was thinking of decorating it by painting it black and doing the "Bunyip" story from Werewolf: The Apocalypse along the side in the stylized pictographic writing system that game uses. I'm wondering what I could get if I sold something like that on e-bay. Hmmm...definately a unique live-action game prop.

Obviously it needs a power assist. :)

I'm glad you're using a heat gun and not PVC-eating termites. Those can wreak havoc on a modern home if they get loose.

Yah--it was still a bitch getting the mouthpiece built--I had to make the pipe curve inward, which, simply because different matter can't occupy the same place at the same velocity, was a challenge. After about an hour of futzing I discovered that if I bevelled out just under the lip, that would let me tighten the ring of the lip itself. PVC hasn't been subjected to such tension since my former Spirit Halloween manager Mel decided to wear plastic pants.

Obsess much?

But wow, that sounds neat. And the legend of the Bunyip is a tragic one, that shows why the 'heroes' are just as villainous as what they oppose.

absolutely!
I thought this would be a fun way to combine a few obsessions :)
