Wheee, $800,000 error--

I'm really hoping I didn't just cost my company $800K.

It was sort of a committee screw-up that started last April--this group said "go and make a $40K book package, we're going to sell it." Then in December, they still hadn't sold it, so I didn't bother making it.

Now, a good number of the books I need to build the thing are gone, with no possibility of recovery, so I can't build the package on the off chance they make the sale.

*sigh*

Well, let's see what happens. There've been some scary cuts in the company, I'd prefer not to join them, but on the other hand, it's not remotely the end of the world if I do, I've been on the edge of quitting for a year now.

Edit: My boss went over some figures, and it looks like the inventory I thought was on hold is just gone, not really my fault, except I didn't detect this a month ago. So, probably less job-losing territory, but there will be a lot of frantic e-mail tomorrow morning.
