Birthday coming up soon...

Wheee, I've just about made my next aging roll. Anyone interested in celebrating another year with me?

Time: Fabulous Loweswater Manor (we need a name for this house...)
Place: 7:00-10:00 (people may stay later, but the quality of the entertainment will go downhill sharply!) Saturday, March 8.

Theme: Saturday Morning at Night! People are invited to bring:

Their favorite 80's cartoon (exceptions will be made for really great cartoons from the late 70's and early 90's, particularly if I manage to find Where's Waldo and Road Rovers on DVD).

A box of sugary cereal

Pajamas and stuffed animals

Extra couch cushions to help make a fort might be in order.

We'll watch one episode of a bunch of different nostalgia/nausea-inducing cartoons, ritually eat breakfast cereal until we're ill, and then, well, I don't know :) Past 10:00 I'm going to switch to feature-length epics like Rainbow Bright and the Star Stealer until I pass out or someone shoots me.

Here's what we've got so far, cartoon-wise:
He-Man (the complete series)
She-Ra (Season 1)
Drak Pack
Hero High (This is a goofy series I'm not familiar with, but it's in the "stupid superhero" family)
Captain N: The Game Master (complete series)
Gummi Bears
Super Mario Bros and Super Mario World
C.O.P.S. (just a few episodes)
Silverhawks (!)
Superfriends/Justice League
Dungeons and Dragons
The Wizard of Oz
Pirates of Dark Water
Gem and the Holograms
School House Rocks
Fraggle Rock (Maybe)
Road Rovers (Maybe)
Talespin (Thanks, Lou!)
Bravestarr
Legend of Zelda

Movies - no full-length movies during the party, but maybe later
Care Bears Movies
Rainbow Bright and the Star Stealer

Any other cartoons would be appreciated--I'm not personally a big "Thundercats" fan, and the "giant robot battlesuit" family of anime is out. Anime in general is kind of off-theme, since most of it didn't run on Saturday mornings.

Okay, well, it has to be dubbed, then, that's part of the experience. And I'm drawing the line at giant robot battlesuits. Not for thematic unity, but I don't like them! *stomp feet, pout*

*snickers* Don't alter your theme for me. This is all about you. I was just playing silly devil's advocate :)
I'm afraid that I don't have very pleasant memories of Saturday Morning cartoons in general, but that's all me.

Well, except for Road Rovers (if the bootleg I'm getting is decent), Drak Pack and COPS, the rest of it will be put into a play order by the audience, based entirely on the amount of excited squeaks emitted by fans.

Oddly enough I was just thinking about Jem and the holograms yesterday and found out that the dvds are no longer available. I'm not sure if this made me sad that I can't indulge my nostalgia or glad that I won't have the pain of having the theme song stuck in my head for years after I did.

*Does "Truly Amazing, Truly Truly Truly Amazing" dance*

It's probably available through Amazon Used at a fairly low price. The boxed set must have been mass-produced, I found it at a grocery store, which is the sure sign of overstock.

This wasn't really a show that was a part of my childhood, it didn't run locally except for a brief period, and then it was played opposite something I liked...you know, you'd watch ANYTHING if it was animated, but sometimes there was actually a choice.

Well, if you do a search on amazon for it now the cheapest price for season 1&2 is over a hundred dollars. A bit more than I want to spend for nostalgia's sake, I'm afraid.

As is the way of anything with cheesy pop music roots I adored Jem, despite being a teenager when it used to be on. It was so awful and so good at the same time!

Whoof, that's terrible! I'll keep an eye out at our local "Half Price Books" for it, we shop there enough that sometimes we get lucky trying to find specific things.

That would be cool. I remember looking at them a couple of years ago when they first came out and not getting them...silly fox.

Maaaybe...but I remember them being INCREDIBLY expensive, like $50 for a half-season. That's unreasonable.

VHS?
I have a good amount of JEM on VHS...Will I need to bring a VHS system with me? lol
I should check what Saturday morning cartoons I have on the betamax.

Re: VHS?
No worries on the Gem series, I bought Butterfly the first season on DVD :) Other fun finds, though, are appreciatd...I don't think we have any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, for one.

Re: TMNT and beta max
Whoohoo! I wonder if I could find the JEM board game in the attic...it might be next to the Fluppy Dogs...I know I still have the audio tape from the game.
How fortunate: TMNT episodes are on the same tape as Rose Petal Place!

I can't remember if she was Saturday mornings, but I'll bring Penelope Pitstop, just in case. It's like Snow White on acid.

I bet if you found the Nintendo Breakfast cereal at a thrift store it would still be good.

The Betamax would be scarey. I touched one tonight and it kinda blew up. They might be cursed...

I will plan on being there!

Would you like me to bring the first volume of Tale Spin? I know that is early 90's, but it was a wonderful show. I also have volumes II, IV and V of Sherlock Hound, which was made in 1984. Sadly, none of these volumes contain the episodes directed by Miyazaki, but it's still a fun show.

Also, I am guessing features probably don't count, but I have these titles on hand:

The Secret of NIMH (1982)
The Great Mouse Detective (1986)

Hmm...Sherlock Hound really didn't run on any networks I'm familiar with. It's pretty, though! Talespin, though, that works :) We've got both Nihm and Mouse Detective, but...again, I do want to keep with a "saturday morning TV show" theme, so the movies we'll be running will be more along the lines of Care Bears, the feature-length films made from individual episodes strung together, that sort of thing.

I'll be there, and I'll bring "The Raccoons" :D It was a very cool 80s cartoon :3 Featuring some woodland critters :3 Quite furry!

I saw a reference to that while I was shopping for videos--I'd love to see it!

It has a most awesome soundtrack. The music is quite 80s New Wave, but honestly, beats ANY music in a cartoon of that time period :)

Also, I would LOVE to see some of the Mr. T cartoon at the party. I have some on Tivo, but no idea how to get that off of my Tivo...
