Trivially amusing--

Someone sent me a powerpoint presentation where the slides primarily comprised large JPGs with all the info on them against a sandy background. This is a bad idea, as it makes the information almost entirely uneditable, except by someone with photoshop, which I have.

One page had three large columns of text, to which I had to append three more lines. By layering the new text over the old, gaussian-blurring, sharpening it, and then pixellating the results, and hard-lighting the original over it, it looks almost as crappy as the original. Not quite, it's visibly emboldened Times New Crappy 18, but only her typesetter knows for sure.

Ew. It's like working in a word-processing sweatshop.

Far more practical than attempting to explain the problem to the person who created the document, probably. :)

Well, as an obsessive-compulsive anal-retentive, this sort of thing is sort of fun in a once-a-week sort of way. It did prevent me from getting a lot of much more scary-important work done, though. I could be 1) figuring out why we're releasing 2002 instead of 2004 teacher's guides in one of our front-running products, or 2) cutting logos out of images and spending two minutes making a "B" lower case because it's a frikkin' graphic instead of a character.

Eh, I'm paid either way.

Re: Times New Crappy?
There *should* be a times new crappy, and I'm sure there's something kind of like it, but no, I was just pixellating standard Times font. As it happens, I just blew four hours redoing it again so it looks professional, so no more Times New Crappy. :(
