Weekend scavenging report--

Saturday, GREAT garage sale. Well, not so great, but it was one of Badger's friends, and he gave us amazingly low prices--a big TV set, two nice stools, the Threadgills cookbook, an asparagus steamer, a few other random books, two nice folding black chairs and a cool travel cot thing, $25.

Sunday--well, nothing quite so amazing, but Maus and Tenar wanted to go thrift-store bopping, and at Savers I found a really horrid hawaiian shirt--it's purple and white, and shouldn't be so loud with only one color--what looks like a Toys 'R' Us manager's shirt bright red twill with embroidered TRU logo over shirt pocket and on sleeves, and--don't tell Badger about this, it's his birthday present--a really nice Star Wars shoulder-carried blaster, nearly "life" size, made of what feels like aluminum or some other lightweight metal. It might actually have been made to be a collectible, it's very nice, and has three different noises and a light-up red nacell sort of thing. Not bad for $3!

September, no worries. I just pick up stuff whenever I see it, saves on frantic running around down the road!

As far as cheap good quality clothes go, Savers is simply the best, it stomps Goodwill. Thrifttown's not bad, but Savers is professional, well-run, and has great rotation of merchandice. You're not likely to find something REALLY AMAZING there, though, it's overall a bit pedestrain when it comes to weird-ass product.

That being said, I got my first stuffed hyena there, so there's the occasional gem.

It's a steamer SPECIFICALLY for asparagus? Is is asparagus-shaped? Does it process one aspara at a time? Perhaps there's a hopper on the top and it ejects them from a tube perfectly steamed?

Sounds like a great run. Hopefully the new TV will switch off Butterfly's shows more....er, I mean LESS. I hope it shuts them off less. :) And the blaster sounds really cool!

It's a wire mesh in a pot. It also steams carrots. I have NO IDEA why it's designated an asparagus steamer. I shall be using it on broccoli in the vague future.

I think you're making this more complicated than it is :)

Wait a second, don't you already own an 80's-riffic Toy's R Us shirt?

No, I've got a blue employee vest-smock sort of thing. This is a big ol' dress shirt with a button-down collar.

*notes that it may become easier to find anthrohyenas if you search for gnolls...*

I need more icons. :( Know anyone who can make me look like a hedgehog? :) :)

I've seen some cute ones on Lysator doing that very search. There's just so much on that server (or any other long-standing art server), and as in all endeavors it's 9/10ths drek, that I never actually bother. One of the bigger furry sites has a keyword search that 1) just groks the text description, 2) sends as a result the complete page with 20 images. Bleah.
