Bit creepy--

I went out to a movie with Whines last night, and then to Barnes & Noble to buy some music. We were ambling around the bookstore, and I was being a little bit affectionate--nothing blatant, just holding onto his hand or arm when he was showing me a book. We were by the huge picture windows that opened onto the sidewalk.

Someone banged on the window. I looked, and there was a man looking down at us. He smiled an exagerrated smile, being a little nervous it made me more so, waved both hands, and walked on.

Naturally, I'm a bit nervous about being affectionate with another guy in public--I mean, yes, it's Austin, but sometimes it feels like this is the McCarthy era, but instead of communism, it's deviancy of any sort that's being brought to the harsh light of misguided social justice. So I spent the next 10 minutes trying to figure out what was being communicated in that odd moment, where there was *clearly* some attempt at communication going on, but the medium was the only message.

Of course, he might have been saying "nice kilt!" I can't rule that out.

Maybe he mistook you for another fuzzy-haired, leather-kilted person and was just trying to be polite?

Nice Kilt! :D

I would imagine that if he meant ill will, he wouldn't be smiling at all, unless he then followed that by entering the store and going psycho on you. So, I can only guess that he was a) being silly, b) homeless and insane, c) mistook you for someone else, or d) really dug your kilt.

True enough, but I really couldn't "read" what he was saying, the gestures he made didn't have any direction or content besides "I see you!" He didn't *look* homeless and insane, and it was the Arboretum, but it's hard to tell sometimes, and the timing was close enough to make me uncomfortable, though I'm usually pretty affectionate.
