From the latest radio series of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, wherin humans "still find novelty ring tones a pretty good idea."

"The Galactic Census was fairly typical, in that it didn't tell anyone anything they didn't already know--except that everyone in the galaxy has 2.4 legs and owns a hyena."

Hyenas would be the best choice for galaxy-wide pet, 'cause they're cuddly and affectionate and loyal (apparently). And they'd eat garbage! And annoying yappy dogs!

What's spooky is that I'm re-reading the 'trilogy', and the last bit I've read what that exact quote from So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish.

Oh, is that the book it came from? The radio series doesn't stick perfectly well with the book, so there's a little shuffling. The current chronicle has the appearance of the Rain God character, which I would swear is from Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.
