Happy thoughts :)

Jerseytude, the SO of my roomie Butterfly, is working on an interesting project called "Happy News". Being on the losing side of the nation's politics, I have mixed thoughts about the long-term consequences of this sort of journalism, but it's a neat idea, and I look forward to seeing how it develops.

You mean there's finally a place where I can start following the news again?

*nod* I like the "New Stinging Jellyfish Found--it may be a new species!" Very nice positive spin :) I've set it as my home page.

I'm an editor and consultant. I do some writing, for example, the story in Science and Technology on Internet Video and two of the editorials: The nature of the News & Prattling Pundits.

I am of mixed feelings about the site. To wit: I share many of Spotty's concerns, being inside the company, I have many more of my own that I can't tell you about lest I get fired, and you could start following the news at news.bbc.co.uk. Let's just say that I have very little control over how the site looks and feels and I have only slightly more control over content.

On the other hand, I am proud of the civic journalism model that I've convinced them to try - if they can get their act together.

On the third hand, I am only getting paid $3/hr less than I was doing data entry, and I don't have benifits - like I did when I was doing data entry.

It's a very nice-looking site. I'm fairly impressed with it--and I'll just say what I've said since I met you, you really do worry too much. Maybe this is a right idea at the right time. We'll see, but I am interested in the site.
