Nose to the Grindstone

A thousand points of blue--

I got a new piece of office swag today. Whines, you'll appreciate this, kind of--it's one of those magnetic clasp necklaces with the plastic pendant that glows when the clasp magnets meet, forming an electrical connection. It's blue, has a silver pony bead, and the Harcourt logo.

My first theory is that this is prep for a massive educational publisher's rave. I can see it very clearly, hear it, even smell the sweat and decaf. Strobes, men in suits, and teachers in their denim skirts and teacher clothes dancing spasmodically to what is clearly a techno cover of the "Between the Lions" theme. Oh, yes.

(shouted) "I THINK THE SUPER OF COLERIDGE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT REALLY LIKES OUR NEW PHONEMIC AWARENESS PROGRAM!"

(shouted, female voice) "WHY'S THAT?"

"LOOK AT HOW MUCH SHE'S SMILING!"

I don't have another theory. I'm too busy treasuring this one.
