Plusses and minuses--

Butterfly's car seems to be dying. This is a shame, as it's a great car. The real problem isn't so much that it won't run, as that my family mechanic says it'll take about $1400 to get it *mostly* ready for inspection (the stickers expired in December). That still won't solve the emissions problem.

On the plus side, I technically own a car, though it's the one my sister uses to get to work. So, I can get it from her after a few weeks transition time. It's still an unnecesary financial burden.

$1400 to get it ready for inspection?

Err... have you considered getting a second opinion?

Well, it burns oil, leaks oil, breaks squeek terribly, left rear taillight's out, starter's dubious at best, and it's a 1985 car with a blue book value of $1.35. It does start to add up, expense-wise. We are thinking about getting a second opinion, though this is my family mechanic, and he tends to work on the cheap when possible.

Butterfly's car has done well for a 21 year old vehicle, but I suspect its near the end of the line here. So, have you ever considered a new vehicle versus a constant barrage of repairs? I know how much you guys lothe dealerships, but you may consider Scion. All there dealers are very low preasure, in fact I had to bother them to hastle me. :p And, wasn't that thing a old Camry? I can't remember; Scions are Toyotas, which next to Honda is about as reliable as you can get. I've done alot of research and it seams no one has anything bad to say about the Tc, which is bizzare in it's own right. Couple this with a fairly low price (16-17K new), and I believe your credit is pretty solid, your looking about 280 or so a month, maybe less. I know I may be preaching to a wall here, but how much is reliability and a viable ride worth to you?

And hey, if not, I'm all for one less person having the vehicle I plan on purchasing this year. :p
