Big pancake supper Tuesday went off pretty well, I didn't manage to make everything I'd planned to, but I tried the new recipe for cardamom waffles with a honey-whipped cream topping, and those were very tasty, a delicate flavor that was *nearly* overwhelmed by the eggy flavor of the waffles. Yumsk.

What to do about the video screen? :( Do you run the TV or not? It's fun to have some background noise, but even the least plot-type stuff we have dominates the room. Some things make the evening more fun, but it's not as social...but it IS community, which is important...I dunno, what's the balance there?

Whines has built stadium seating in our living room, a raised couch platform. Clever boy :) It got quite a workout.

Things are a little bit doldrummy right now, like life's in an eddy. We just bought a house, so maybe that's enough change for one year.

I know what you mean aboot the tv sucking people in. Sometimes I turn it to one of those music-only channels; it'll show little bits of trivia about the artist playing but nothing heavier than that.

Sometimes, there's just nothing to say. But the problem is that there's the *expectation* of TV as an activity.

I know I recognize that fox you're using as an icon--where's it from?

My experience
I tend to get sucked into moving pictures, so my preference at social events is for the TV to be either off or tuned to something non-plot (and even so, I'll get somewhat sucked into it).
