Food experiment for the week--

Tried to wing (heh)a version of my current food-for-thought, pina colada chicken. Actually, I just kind of went all-out tropical for dinner. I marinated chicken breasts in a three-part mix of rum, pineapple juice and coconut milk, along with pineapple rings soaked in rum. Grilled both of them on the barbeque pit. Also made some fried plantain and mixed it up with more coconut milk, served both over a mix of black and brown rice with a little coconut milk and pineapple juice, and a few dashes of red pepper and chopped macadamia nuts for variety.

Food...okay, considering. I let the plantains burn, which was dumb, though the coconut milk got rid of most of the bitter flavor. The plantains were underripe--they're still totally edible, but it's more like potato and less like dessert. Rice was tasty--black rice is so pretty anyway, and the rice was tangy and maaaybe a little too spicy.

Chicken I'm a bit disappointed by. It was a tiny bit sweet, but clearly if I want to make "pina colada chicken," it's going to take a thicker glaze instead of just a marinade. Bummer.

Watched episode one of "Tin Man" on DVD. Pretty but dumb. The cowardly lion knockoff was kinda cute, but I'm already sick of EVERY LINE either referencing Oz in an off-hand way or portending something significant. The script was done by the same kid that did "Eragorn," I swear.

Pretty but dumb

I agree, but I liked looking at it anyway.

*nods* I like the technology, dislike the witch (Gold Lamee?!? Who in their right mind...never mind.) really don't care about the main characters. I'm idly curious about where they're going.

My thought is they made the entire thing without worrying about the Baum Estate. Thus, no explicit references to almost anything directly related to Oz.

Azkadelia's (sp?) long black coat in the later episodes is much better, even if they didn't fit it to her properly. The back lacing should be even all the way up and down, the fact that it isn't shows that the coat wasn't fitted right. But that's a nitpicky detail.

I'll let any amount of uneven bodice edging slip by if it means she won't be wearing a high gold lamee collar when next I see her. There are some things not even the wicked can get away with.
