Kiltastic :)

Yay! I get to help sell kilts to queers at Pridefest this year :) Things Celtic is gonna have a booth at the big gay pride festival on June 7, and I'm going to get me my black leather kilt and help shovel Utilikilts out to the bifurcated-garment-wearing masses! And probably die of heat stroke, because, damn, black leather in 120-degree sun is teh suxxors, and that kilt does NOT breathe, ad copy nonwithstanding. I'll bring a back-up kilt made of cotton, just in case I'm actually going to, say, die of kilt-and-stupidity-induced heat exhaustion.

There is something magical about the phrase "back-up kilt".

Hmmm...it does sound a little obscene.

It's in June? Was it in June last year? I know it was warm/hot but it didn't remind me of June weather. I thought it was in May before. *gets confused a lot.*

It is in June, sir :) It marks the anniversary of the Stonewall riots in NYC, where angry drag queens beat up cops for shaking down gay bars, and started the gay rights movement.

That's of June by the way. Helps to include the month.

Fine by me :) But you have to clean up after him! Hyenas are a big responsibility!

I was gonna advise some strategically placed fan, but I don't know if that might actually make things worse... ! :C

Well, I don't know, it could help traffic at the booth, if I worked out a little bit.

Who pays for the electricity?
You could bring an air conditioner. Everstar makes an upright-labrador-sized portable.
Even a window unit can be put on a table and if you bring about six fans you can make that anti-virus spreading airflow, keeping your air in and the hot air out.

Then you also have the kilts blowing in the wind that has to help the selling factor.

I requested and paid for an electrical outlet so we can have a fan! I'm all about fans at festivals.

Now I'm thinking of a new TV workout idea... The Kilted Trainer!

"High kick! One! And two! and three!"

Oh no no no...

I want a kilt! But, yea, no kilt for me. Not at the moment, anyhow. One day...one day I will have a kilt.

Nodnod...they can be a bit pricy!

What does a utilikilt actually do that's different from a standard kilt?
Apr. 18th, 2008 02:41 am (UTC)
Utilikilts are a brand name of lightweight cotton (as opposed to wool) manly-man-skirts in a kilt-like style, with very big pockets and front snaps. So, it's a specific product. The camo kilt I was wearing was a Utilikilt, and I do like their products!

How much do they typically run, and are they conducive for, say doing gymnastics handsprings and just goofing off?
Apr. 18th, 2008 01:39 pm (UTC)
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to do too much upside-downness in a kilt, unless you're wearing some very entertaining boxers underneath :) Great for goofing off, though. They do run in the $120-$140 range, a little pricy (I've only gotten two in the five-odd years I've been obsessing about them, that's too much for a garment!)

well, you could offset some of the heat by wearing a linen shirt and getting your hair off your neck (though will be tricky to still maintain your trademark hair poof w/ it off your neck w/out looking silly.....)

Not a bad idea. I've got a very light cotton tunic--it's black, which is a mixed blessing, but it's pretty air-permeable.
