Foodstuff...

Tried to make a nice dinner for Whines and Lhexa last night. Turned out "okay, considering," though to be fair I made three things, none of which I'd made before.

Carribean-style chicken on black beans and sweet potatoes, served with nut-crusted baked brie, toasted french bread, and home-made apple chutney.

Results were ambiguous. I'd gotten the brie/bread/chutney idea from a local restaurant, and their chutney was not my chutney. Aaand, I made the mistake of using some *ancient* pecans, so everything had a weird "rancid canola oil" edge to it. That was kind of sad. But...tasty enough, considering, for a first try.

The chicken was pretty simple--grilled chicken breasts sprinkled with cajun blackening powder. Not bad, though with only two ingredients, not terribly ambitious.

Overall, I think it was a good effort, made a little weak by substandard ingredients. I'll try again later and use a slightly different chutney recipe.

[edit: and a peanut-butter-and-apple-chutney sandwich is a little weird.]
