Firstly, Google Earth has an ultra-high-resolution of, among other fine paintings, The Garden of Earthly Delights by Heironymous Bosch. I really really love that painting, and it was amazing to be able to take a close walk through it--the sort of detail you'd be able to pick out with a magnifying glass if you were actually standing in front of it. Wow!

Bless you, Goooogle!

Secondly, and really this is from my childhood, I saw a trailer Sunday for a wide screen version of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It looks like they almost totally re-worked the plot, but the book was like 30 pages long and pretty plot-light--it was mostly about the visuals. I can't say I like the character design, the original book had such a warm art style, and CGI's almost always kind of cold, even when Pixar does it. But...yay!

One of my most treasured books is this absolutely massive tome I got in Germany in '89. Fully half of it is detailed plates from just The Garden of Earthly Delights. And hey, there it is! Far right, middle shelf.

I loved richard scarey when I was younger. He was very tolerant of hyenas, I remember. OR at least included them. I'm jealous of the Bosch book!
