Whew! Easter cooking almost done :)

So church is doing a "potluck" tomorrow, sponsored by my team and the dir of religious education. I told her that we'd bring bread (Bread! Bread for the bread god!) and the DRE was going to bring vegetarian soup.

So I got two loaves of challah done yesterday, and did some of the prepwork for next day's cooking. The first loaf was kind of flat, I let it rise way too long when we went to grab lunch--so I pre-sliced it, no-one's the wiser. The second one turned out really nicely :)

The braiding isn't really well-defined because it's a double-sized loaf and I took a few too many shortcuts, but I've learned a bit. Not bad for a first attempt though!

I got up at 6:30 to finish off the cooking. Now the house smells like dog spicy southern cooking from the cauldron of red beans and rice, and the oven is blasting out with cinnamon raisin bread, which smells amazing :)

And the kitchen is utterly, utterly destroyed. It really looked nice a few days ago :(
